Customers using existing, Philips Lighting's connected lighting systems will benefit from the seamless transition to Interact-connected lighting systems through software updates. They will also have access to a richer Interact software environment while still retaining the features they have today.

  • Philips Lighting creates a whole new value beyond lighting products and connected lighting systems and services.
  • The new IoT platform has an accelerating and developer impact on data-access services.

Lighting world leader Philips Lighting (Euronext: LIGHT) has announced its new Internet of Things (IoT) platform called Interact. The platform will allow its professional customers to unlock the full potential of connected lighting. As Philips' value and services in lighting products and systems expand day by day, this platform also supports the company's strategy for providing new data-access services. In addition, Philips has launched connected lighting systems that can generate and upload data for the Interact IoT platform to power the expanding portfolio of its data-enabled services.

Philips Lighting has already established 29 million connected lighting points around the world and plans to make every LED product it produces connected by 2020. Increasingly connected lighting points, sensors, devices and systems can collect large volumes of data that Interact can process. The highly secure and scalable cloud-based Interact platform is hurting with sophisticated and modern data management and data processing capabilities, including learning with artificial intelligence to make sense of all data approaches; data-access services that will bring benefits beyond lighting for their customers.

Typical example of this type of service is occupancy data from different buildings, combined and analyzed to help managers understand and predict how people will use office space. These approaches support savings and better designed, more efficient buildings by optimizing the use of existing office space.

In addition, data from authorized third parties can be analyzed with Interact. For example, for a municipality, news and social media posts or reactions to a new lighting system built on a bridge can be analyzed and the data is sent to the social impact dashboard, an application that sums up public sentiment.

Harsh Chitale, leader of Philips Lighting's Professional Commercial Services division; "We guided our customers first in energy efficient LED lighting and then in connected lighting. Now they're smart enough to collect data about lighting points, their performance, and what surrounds them. Our goal is to create extra value in our customers through data analysis from connected lights, devices and systems, with data-access services that can unlock new capabilities and experiences."

Interact is also designed to support third-party developers, development partners, and innovation. It includes a developer portal and an increased group of licensed APIs so that various data-access services can be developed.

Interact-connected lighting systems

Interact is also a connected lighting system that not only provides support to its customers in improving their lighting experience, but can also improve data and upload to the Interact IoT platform. This includes connected lighting systems that provide a unified user experience, applications that appeal to industry-specific vertical planes. The areas where the system is used are as follows:

  • Interact City for lighting of public spaces, roads, streets, pedestrian areas, parks and plazas
  • Interact Landmark for architectural lighting
  • Interact Office for offices and commercial buildings
  • Interact Retail for large-scale commercial and food sales areas
  • Interact Sports for stadiums

Later this year, the company will launch Interact Industry for specific lighting needs of factories, warehouses and logistics centers. In the coming months, other, segmet-specific Interact lighting systems will be added to the Interact portfolio.
