  • With the new GreenPower LED ceiling lighting, cutting provides the optimum light spectrum in rose cultivation.
  • With the new product of Philips Lighting, it is possible to produce higher quality roses with large buds and heavier branches.

Philips Lighting (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, introduced the new Philips GreenPower LED ceiling lighting with an optimized light spectrum for cutting rose cultivation at the event of Philips Rose Specialty Group. The new Philips GreenPower LED ceiling lighting with cutting rose spectrum allows growers to increase light levels throughout the year without raising the temperature. During extensive experiments conducted by research institution Delphy and Wageningen University, and as experienced rose growers have observed, new cutting rose-spectrum lighting not only improves the quality of roses, but also offers a 40% more efficient option in terms of energy efficiency than high-pressure sodium lighting.

Udo Van Slooten, Head of The Philips Lighting Horticultural Business Unit, said: "Since we first introduced LED ceiling lighting in 2015, we have grown nearly 30 roses, and we have further improved our formula for rose cultivation by working intensively with consultants, universities, research institutions and representatives of the Dutch government who are actively working to improve the rose growing industry. The feedback we received from this network has improved the quality and menstrual quality of roses growing in LED light."

LED difficulty in rose cultivation

"A select group of rose growers use GreenPower LED ceiling lighting to grow roses and say that they have reached higher light levels for their products with LED," Van Slooten said. During the year, cut roses need up to 20 hours of light per day on average, so it is very important to find a light spectrum that will improve both quality and quantity."

Marc Koene, owner of SK Roses from the Netherlands, commented: "Under the new spectrum, rose branches are longer, heavier and their buds are larger."

New GreenPower LED Ceiling Lighting with Rose Light Formula

The new LED rose light formula allows growers to increase lighting hours, increase production efficiently and produce high quality crops thanks to the fixed climate. The new LED rose light formula comes with the latest generation of Philips GreenPower LED ceiling lighting. These specific products typically provide a very high level of efficacy of 500 or 600μmol/s light at 3.0 μmol/J per module. A small amount of white LEDs were added to the rose-spectrum Philips GreenPower ceiling lighting, thereby supporting greenhouse workers in workforce-based tasks such as mowing and monitoring. The module is designed to emit heat efficiently and have a guaranteed lifespan of up to 35,000 hours.
