Lighting Turkish National Committee shared its general impressions about Light&building 2018 Fair….
Light&Building 2018 Fair took place in Frankfurt on 18-23 March 2018. The fair, which was attended by 96 companies from Turkey with a stand area of 4700 m2, was busy for both visitors and participants this year. Looking at the fair in general, there are developments in LED technology, especially in light color and control issues, the industry segment is ready for major change after external lighting, digitalization enters the sector by penetrating 100%, intensive efforts of the lighting sector to become part of the eco-system and solutions aimed at facilitating lighting infrastructure stand out.
At the fair, which is the meeting point of the sector every two years, the common opinion of all visitors this year is that LED is the only indisputable light source for product development. In the past years, the great discussions on efficiency in particular have almost ended, and the sector has come up with common ideas based on lighting quality criteria on the efficiency of this light source and how this efficiency should be measured. Development was mostly in color characteristics and color quality and control came to the fore. Considering that LED has entered our sector with colored lights, it is important that different color temperatures can be designed for white light today.
A few years ago it was written that the use of LED in lighting would reach 70% in 2020, and when we look at the current situation after Light & Building 2018, it would not be too misleading to say that this rate will happen much more recently. The economically large-scale new candidate of LED wind, which starts with a high change rate especially in the field of outdoor lighting, is the segment of industrial structures. In parallel with the rising demand for energy efficiency in this segment, it has been observed that solutions suitable especially for high ceiling applications are at the stand of almost every manufacturer during the fair.
The intensive efforts of the lighting industry to become part of the eco-system are again one of our highlights at the fair. The efforts of the sector's especially European-based manufacturers regarding the qualified production of lighting fixtures have now ended, and with confidence in this regard, the producers have focused on digitalization. The combination of IoT and Fiber technologies with fixtures is developing rapidly and collaborations with different sectors are increasing. Large data sets are obtained through the lighting fixture. However, we can say that the exhibitors have taken the first steps in analyzing this data and adapting it to automation. The determination of the data needed, the analysis and availability of this data with criteria such as comfort, savings and security will be included in the roadmap of the sector in the coming days.
An important development that is especially monitored through the end user view during the fair is the facilitation efforts in the lighting infrastructure. It is observed that easy-to-use solutions are widespread in the internal and external connections of the fixture. The simplest combination of drives, sensors, controllers and fixtures has become important. This situation ensures that end users are technology-friendly and contributes to manufacturers in terms of differentiating themselves.
With a total of 220,000 visitors and 2714 participating companies, we should also say that Light&Building 2018 is an economic success. Considering that 52% of its visitors and 70% of the participants are international, the fact that lighting is the largest global platform to be discussed after Light+Building 2018 is indisputable. The country with the largest turnout was host Germany, which accounted for 30% of respondents. We believe that the fact that german producers, which were smaller scales at the previous fair, took part in this fair with their growing scale is an important indicator of the european manufacturer's efforts to bring its production center to Europe for the last year or two.
The next meeting date of Light & Building is 8 -13 March 2020. However, another important event for the Turkish Lighting Industry until this date is istanbullight 2018, which will be held between 19 -22 September 2018. With its renewed structure and targeted activities, we hope to meet with all stakeholders of the lighting industry at Istanbullight 2018 to discuss new developments and to ensure the transfer of mutual knowledge and experience.
